Free previews stay in your browser. AI generation uploads your photo.

Start with a readable silhouette

Line art relies on edges instead of continuous shading. Choose a photo where the subject separates clearly from the background. A portrait against a plain wall, a flower on a table or a product photographed alone gives you fewer competing contours to inspect.

Three checks before you convert

Crop out objects you do not want in the drawing. Check that eyes, hands or other important features are sharp enough to see in the original. Then compare the darkest edges in the preview: busy fabric, leaves and patterned backgrounds can create more lines than the subject needs.

Local outlines or an AI ink drawing?

The free preview is an image effect calculated in your browser; selecting a photo does not upload it for generation. It is useful for checking composition and contrast. The optional AI step uploads the image and uses a fixed ink-drawing instruction for fine black contours with minimal shading. It can reinterpret facial details and small objects, so review the result before using it.

Use the result as a drawing reference

A line image can help you study the main shapes in a portrait, plan an illustration or prepare a rough coloring reference. Inspect small features and gaps before tracing or printing. The download is a raster image, not editable SVG paths, and there is no guarantee that every outline forms a closed shape.

When the drawing has too many lines

Try a tighter crop and a simpler background first. If facial features break up, return to a sharper source rather than enlarging the small output. For soft color and painted texture instead of outlines, compare the watercolor tool. For pencil shading, the homepage keeps the full four-style comparison.

Photo to line art questions

Is the line art converter free?

+

The local preview and its download are free and do not require sign-in. AI generation is a separate action requiring an account and available credits. Check the tool and pricing page for the current allowance.

Can I download an SVG or transparent background?

+

This tool produces raster images. It does not export SVG paths or promise transparent backgrounds; the ink style is designed as black lines on white paper.

Will this make a ready-to-print coloring page?

+

It can give you a starting reference, but fine lines may need cleanup. Check for open contours, busy backgrounds and small areas before printing. The tool does not guarantee a finished coloring-book layout.

Will the AI drawing match the preview exactly?

+

No. The preview is a local effect, while AI generation interprets the source as an ink drawing. Composition and details can differ. Both are labeled separately in the tool.
